Formed in 1989, XBY is comprised of Alumni musicians and teachers from BYMT (Bromley Youth Music Trust) and since its formation has been under the watchful eye of Dennis Mycroft, who taught most of the bands players when they were still in the Bromley Youth Music Trust. John Hargreaves is a freelance conductor, music director and percussionist. He has worked with various ensembles, choral societies, and local theatre companies in the south-east area.  He started to conduct XBY Concert Band for the National Concert Band Festivals in 2022, and together they have achieved five Platinum awards. BAM Adult Choir

The choir embraces a wide range of works, from light to more demanding. No audition is necessary, just enthusiasm and an enjoyment of singing. Examples of recent programmes include: Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana, Mozart’s Requiem and Brahms’ German Requiem interspersed with lighter music. Whilst at school, Graham lapped up everything BYMT offered, playing clarinet in Bromley Youth Concert Band, Bromley Youth Symphony Orchestra and chamber ensembles, as well as singing in the Bromley Youth Chamber choir.
