Biography

Opus Sax is a vibrant young quartet born from Trinity Laban Conservatoire’s saxophone department.
The group pride themselves on their versatility, playing in styles ranging from the French Classical tradition to Latin, Jazz, and Folk.
The group consists of Lily Skinner on soprano, Jake Phillips on alto, Amadea Topalli on tenor, and Louis Suc on baritone. They have received extensive chamber coaching from saxophone professor and woodwind doubler Melanie Henry, as well as Gerard McChrystal, Mick Foster, and RCM Professor Kyle Horch. On top of their formal recitals in local venues such as the ORNC Chapel, the Queen’s House, Greenwich, and the glorious St. James’ Church in Paddington, Opus Sax boasts a substantial commercial outlook, having played at numerous local festivals and private events, and even entertained patients at the Royal London Hospital.
Lily is a multi-instrumentalist freelancer who has just graduated from Trinity Laban. Encouraged by her flute teacher, she picked up the saxophone at age 15 so she could take part in the jazz band at her local music centre. She has explored many different styles and has come to love most the sound
of the classical saxophone. Lily feels most at home on the soprano or alto saxophone but also enjoys playing her baritone from time to time.
Jake is currently in his fourth and final year at Trinity Laban. His interest in music began at a young age on the piano, extending to the saxophone shortly after. He has played in various saxophone quartets, wind/concert bands, jazz orchestras, and pop/rock bands. At Trinity, he continues to develop
his technique and explore saxophone repertoire whilst indulging his passion for jazz music and electronic music production.
Also in her final year of studies at Trinity Laban, Amadea picked up the saxophone at age 11 when she joined the Luton Music Service. As well as the four main types of saxophone, Amadea doubles on clarinet and bass clarinet; with a keen interest in musical theatre, she has played in productions of
Everybody’s Talking ‘Bout Jamie, Chicago, and Urinetown. She also enjoys playing with local concert bands, performing with various popular music artists on original music, and collaborating with composers to create new music for the saxophone.
Since graduating from Trinity Laban, Louis has delved into all manner of musical exploits including a Ceilidh band, wedding music, and even instrument repair. He began his career in musical theatre but has developed an eclectic taste ranging from traditional folk to indie rock. Having played on a variety
of saxophones in a variety of settings, Louis finds himself here holding down the low end on the baritone saxophone.”
