Beckenham Chorale Spring Concert
Saturday 23rd March 2024 at 7:00 pm

Haydn – Nelson Mass

Schubert – Mass in G

The Chorale will be performing two glorious masses which were written less than 20 years apart at the turn of the 19th Century, Schubert’s Mass in G and Haydn’s Nelson Mass.

Franz Schubert’s Mass in G major is one of the most popular settings of the mass with charming song-like melodic writing. Aged just 18, Schubert wrote it in March 1815 in less than one week, and it still resonates as one of his most popular pieces.

By contrast, Haydn’s Missa in angustiis (Mass for troubled times), commonly known as the Nelson Mass, was composed in 1798, one of six masses written near the end of his life, when he composed some of his finest liturgical music.

Tickets are £15 and £20. Booking opens on Ticketsource on Tuesday 27 February. On the door from 6.15pm subject to availability
